TECHNICAL ADVICE - BRAND SPECIFIC
Compiled from comments and suggestions from a number of our clients and our own experience. Ford 2000 S.O.H.C. From new these engines have had a reputation for camshaft wear, particularly at initial start up. Accordingly, when installing this camshaft no warranty claim will be considered unless there is evidence of defect in material or workmanship in the components we have supplied and the installer has carefully carried out all the correct installation procedures. These procedures include: 1. All the steps outlined on our cam card or numbered cam sheet plus:- 2. The wipe area on the rockers is correct (see the diagram below). | | Valve is too long Use a shorter valve or remove the lash cap | | Valve is too short Use a longer valve or lash cap | | Correct Geometry | 3. The engine has a new oil spray bar. 4. The rocker pads and cam lobes have been really well prepared with moly assembly paste. 5. That at full cam lift there is still a minimum of .080" room in the valve springs before coil bind. 6. That the valve stem seal does not foul the valve spring retainer at full lift. 7. If using dual valve springs, machine the spring seat where necessary and check the valve spring retainer to ensure both will accommodate the inner valve spring. 8. Break in the camshaft on a "soft" valve spring.
NOTE: We strongly recommend that if you have never set up the valve train in a Ford 2000 SOHC engine previously, that you get an experienced engine builder who has to check your work before start up.
